USEFUL INFORMATION

Yield

2 people

Cooking

10 min.

Ingredients

Soup base:

  • 100g Red lentils
  • 500ml Water

Spices and additional ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp Sunflower or canola oil
  • 1 Large potato or 2 small ones
  • 1 Onion
  • 1/2 Carrot
  • 1 Garlic clove
  • 1 Piece of ginger
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Black mustard seeds
  • 1 /4 tsp Curry powder or Garam masala

  • Fresh coriander to decorate

Method

  1. Wash the lentils under running water until the water comes out relatively clear
  2. Add the oil to the pressure cooker, sauté the onion until it is translucent
  3. Then add the garlic, ginger, cumin and mustard seeds
  4. Continue by adding the powdered spices: turmeric and curry powder (or Garam Masala if you have it)
  5. Add carrot and potatoes cut into pieces
  6. Incorporate the lentils and cover with half a liter of boiling water
  7. Close the pressure cooker and proceed with cooking, it will take 5/10 minutes from when you hear the cooker whistling
  8. Once the valve is finished and the valve has dropped, you can open the pot
  9. Check the consistency of the soup and add the salt
  10. Personally, I lightly crush the lentils with a spoon to make it creamier
  11. Serve with rice and fresh coriander

Notes

Red lentils do not require soaking, however I recommend washing them thoroughly under running water before cooking to eliminate any impurities that may have accumulated on the surface

Boiling water isn't mandatory, but if you have a kettle, it can help speed up the cooking time by several minutes
